Serendipity

Hey yall! This week at The Cuttlebug Spot, we have a unique challenge goin on. It is a fun technique called 'Serendipity Embossing.' Here is the link to Brigita's blog where she has a video on how to do this fun technique:

Isn't that the coolest? Thanks to Brigita for a great tutorial!

I had so much fun making this card. I really enjoyed trying the new technique. It really is easy and fun!!! After I watched this video, I knew I wanted to put a softer spin on my 'serendipity embossing.' I wanted my stamped image to really stand out. So I used 2 shades (one light and one dark) of cream colored cardstock and one cream colored tulle patterned paper. Here is a picture of my collage so you can see it a little better:

Next, I trimmed off the excess around the edge:

I chose to emboss with the Swiss Dots folder to keep it simple. I noticed after you embossed it flattened a tad. I still wanted some of that dimension, so I pulled up around the edges (you will be able to see this on the card):

Then, here is the card that I created for this week. This is one of my southernbelle stamps I have not used yet, so she is making her debut today. LOL. This stamp is called 'Belle of the Ball' and she just cracks me up! I love how sassy she looks. I told my husband if we were ever to go to a costume party, I would so wear something like this. It is so me. I used my watercolor pencils and watercolored the image. I used pop dots to adhere her to the 'serendipity embossed' background. Next, I mounted all of this on some maroon colored cardstock to bring out the reds in her dress. Then I cut my base for my card out of the same cream colored, tulle patterned paper. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in 'Fired Brick' to highlight the edges of the card. Next, I used my sewing machine to sew on a pleat of tulle. Then, I added a cream colored flower, some more tulle, and a blingy brad. I stamped my sentiment, which says "Charmed, I'm Sure!" (so perfect for this stamped image...LOL). I used the same ink to distress around the edge of it as well. Last, I adhered everything down. Here is my card:

Isn't she the funniest? I love it! LOL

To show the dimension:

Also, I decided to make another card using this technique to show bolder cardstock used. For this one, I used black and red cardstock with a rose patterned paper. I embossed with the Music Notes Cuttlebug folder. I stamped my image on and watercolored her. Isn't she cute? Love her! The sentiment says "I've got your back!" LOL. Love it! I also used the Swiss Dots embossing folder to emboss one of my scalloped ovals. I also incorporated some red ribbon and a red flower. Here is the 'serendipity embossed' paper before:

Here is my card:

I used red stickles on her lipstick, undies, and high heel shoes to give her some bling.

So do come on over to The Cuttlebug Spot and join us for a fun challenge. Here is the link for you:
